Judge Joe Brown jailed, held in contempt

Joe BrownAtlanta (HLN) Judge Joe brown going off in a courtroom.

We’ve heard it many times. Old news until this week inside a juvenile court in Tennessee.

Brown was representing a client in a child support matter. When he was told that his case was not on the afternoon docket… he lost control.

“This sorry operation needs to stop!” Brown exclaimed.

The juvenile court judge promptly responded by sentencing Judge Brown to 24 hours in jail for contempt. But Brown kept talking.

“Guess what – you might not be operating tomorrow,” Brown threatened. “This is a circus, sir.”

Judge Joe BrownThe juvenile court judge did not find it funny. So he kept tacking on days behind bars – five of them before the rant finally ended.

Brown was released from jail after just a few hours. He is running for Shelby County District Attorney and called the whole thing “dirty politics.”

“I’m a little hot under the collar,” he told our affiliate WREG on the jailhouse steps. “Forty years – I’ve never seen such a circus as they’ve got down there.”

Another TV court personality, Judge Alex Ferrer, joined HLN’s “Now: On the Case” and had this to say about Joe Brown: “Wow! That’s all I can say. Joe does know better. I know him. He’s a bright guy. He’s one of the more well read guys I know. But he can be crazy and we just saw an example of crazy. I know he gets passionate about things but I would have held him in contempt just like that judge did.”
