COACHELLA 2009
Over the last decade, the warm desert setting of Indio, California, east of Palm Springs, has hosted music’s biggest names – from Madonna in ’06, to Prince in ’08, and now in ’09 – Sir Paul McCartney. In addition to the headliners, there’s an eclectic array of entertainers to keep crazed fans from all genres satisfied. This year, Morrissey, The Killers, The Cure, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, Public Enemy, Paolo Nutini and many others put on unforgetable performances. Street artist Shepard Fairey was also on hand. He stepped out of his graphic design studio to put on his DJ headset and get folks dancing in the dust. Los Angeles based photographer, Harper Smith, captured the atmosphere and artists like no other behind the lens.
